STOP THE GUMMY SMILE

The popular gummy smile or gummy smile appears as a consequence of what we call altered passive eruption . This problem is generally recognized when the margin of the gum covering is part of the tooth, so that when the patient shows no smile the entire tooth.
As if we observe that the gummy teach or our teeth are very square , we should consult a periodontist. Although the appearance is sometimes not sufficient to detect altered passive eruption so long as the gum is inflamed and blood after performing dental hygienes, and if the dentist does not find a solution, we should also see a periodontist to assess whether there is a altered passive eruption problem.
Beyond aesthetics
Know that altered passive eruption involves not only an aesthetic but also means that the gum is supporting the tooth, but not attached to it as it only adheres to the cementum. That is, in these cases we will create a space that in the future will be colonized by bacteria , causing decay on the tooth enamel or gums inflamed and consequent destruction of the bone, known as periodontitis , or pyorrhea .
In most cases the treatment for altered passive eruption is very simple. With outpatient surgery to remove the excess gum and, in many cases, excess bone the patient can enjoy a much nicer smile and above all avoid problems in the future.
